D-Day – June 6, 1944 – was an event that began the long push of the allies into Germany for the defeat of Hitler and his cancerous Nazi regime. The victory was costly in military and civilian casualties – something we should never forget.
There were other D-Day invasions in the Pacific as the American military island-hopped its way to the doorstep of Tokyo to defeat Japanese imperialism. This was a challenging endeavor but a necessary one to achieve victory.
These events seem so long ago, but they have ongoing meaning for freedom and democracy. Today, we face equally dangerous threats. Let’s pray that these situations do not escalate into warfare – the consequences of such an outcome are unimaginable.
Peace is fragile. As believers, we know that only the Prince of Peace can bring real peace. Pause today, and thank God for the peace we have through Christ.
