Hello, Alabama Baptists! We often know that summertime is a period in which there might be a bit of a lull, but I believe it’s an opportunity for our greatest experience of evangelism in reaching out to others. And I really believe Vacation Bible School is that tool.
Now, you’ve heard me say this through the years, but let me just tell you that it is an occasion in which we can reach children, youth, and yes, adults, if we really intensify our efforts and crystallize our plans and do so with intensity and effort to reach and teach individuals. So lay claim to the opportunity of Vacation Bible School. If you can’t have one on your own, if your church is too small to do so, put in forces with other churches and have an experience, say, in a larger community. Use backyard Bible studies. But this summer, make it a summer of reaching and teaching.
Well, let me segue. SBC is meeting just weeks away now, and in a matter of time, we’ll be gaveling in and later gaveling out, but in between, we’ll have opportunities for worship and to hear inspirational stories from our mission boards, the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board, and yes, we have now a number of candidates. It’s hard to keep up with how many we have, but you’ll have an opportunity to cast a new vote for a new president. There’ll be much in store Tuesday night for that’s the period of time to focus on major business reports and actions to be taken by the convention. I want to plead with you and appeal to you as Alabama Baptists. If at all possible, plan to be at Indianapolis and be a part of the annual celebration of who we are as Southern Baptists. God bless you.
