Thanksgiving Message from Rick Lance

Confession time. One of my favorite trivial pursuits is that of words, studying words.

I’m an aficionado and connoisseur of words, and every so often I just am stopped in my tracks by a word that is used and translated from the technical sense into a more practical, informal way.

Recently I came across the word ghosted. It was used in a conversation, and I thought, what an interesting expression. Then I saw it on a television program, Ghosted.

The technical meaning we’ll leave alone, but it literally means, as you well know, perhaps, that in an informal way it’s used to describe when someone just ends a relationship and walks away from you. They have ghosted you. They’ve left your life.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s thank God that he doesn’t ghost us, that he never leaves us nor forsakes us.

Perhaps our prayer, in an informal but sincere way, ought to be, Lord, thank you for not ghosting us.

Thank you for always being there.

Thank you for the promise you’ve given us: I’ll be with you to the end of the age.

That begins a spirit of thanksgiving.
